Stephen Emeomi-Magi, the best graduating student of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has been awarded N500,000 by the Ahonaruogho family of Benin, Edo State.
The Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, announced this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Okitipupa.
He stated that the award, named the ‘Mrs. Josephine Ajua Ahonaruogho Prize Money for Best Graduating Student,’ was instituted to encourage academic excellence.
Emeomi-Magi, from the Department of Electrical/Electronics, was recognized as the best graduating student for the 2023/2024 session during the institution’s convocation held on March 4.
Out of the 995 students who graduated, 31 obtained First Class, 367 earned Second Class Upper Division, 495 received Second Class Lower Division, and 102 graduated with Third Class.
Ologunorisa noted that the scholarship was announced through a correspondence from Dr. Richard Oma-Ahonaruogho, SAN.
“It is hoped that the award will further stimulate academic excellence and produce graduates who will contribute to Nigeria’s pursuit of excellence and national development,” Oma-Ahonaruogho stated in his letter.
The institution’s Registrar, Mr. Abiodun Okunniga, congratulated Emeomi-Magi and described his achievement as a result of dedication and commitment to excellence. He also appreciated the Ahonaruogho family for their support.
“Emeomi-Magi’s success is a testament to hard work and perseverance. We are proud to recognize his accomplishment and grateful to the Ahonaruogho family for their investment in OAUSTECH students,” Okunniga said.
Reacting to the award, Emeomi-Magi expressed his surprise and gratitude, saying he was overwhelmed by the recognition.
“I was shocked when the institution’s management informed me that I was the best graduating student. I am truly grateful to God, the university, and the Ahonaruogho family for this honor,” he said.
