Popular Nigerian rapper OdumoduBlvck has been named the winner of the highly coveted ‘Next Rated’ category at the 17th edition of the prestigious Headies Awards.

According to correspondents, the 17th Headies ceremony, themed “Back to Base,” was held on Sunday at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.

The ‘Next Rated’ category is regarded as the most sought-after honour at the Headies, recognising the most promising emerging artistes in the industry.

OdumoduBlvck’s triumph in this category was one of the evening’s major highlights.

In a touching moment, he invited his mother and his entire crew onto the stage to celebrate alongside him.

He shared an emotional story about his mother’s journey, revealing that she gave birth to him in her late thirties and had always believed he was destined for greatness.

He dedicated the award to his mother, expressing deep gratitude and acknowledging the special bond they share.

The crowd erupted in applause as OdumoduBlvck’s mother beamed with pride, surrounded by her son’s crew members, friends, and supporters.

Correspondents also reported that this year’s ceremony marked a significant return to Nigeria, following two years of being hosted in the United States.

The “Back to Base” theme underlined the importance of staying true to cultural identity while advancing creativity and innovation.

The event attracted a host of celebrities and industry stakeholders, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of African music.

Among the dignitaries present was the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who graced the occasion.

Notable moments included the appearance of Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and his wife, Priscilla Ojo, marking their first public appearance together as a married couple at the awards.

This year’s Headies featured 31 categories, including Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, and Recording of the Year.

Other notable winners included Liya, who secured Best Vocal Performance (Female); Lojay, who won Best Vocal Performance (Male); and Rema, who took home Afrobeats Album of the Year for “HEIS”.

Davido was crowned Artiste of the Year, while Zerry DL won Rookie of the Year.

Late rapper Mohbad was posthumously honoured, with the award received by his family.

KCEE was recognised with a Special Recognition Award for his years of excellence in the music industry.

Other awardees included Tribe Called Judah (Soundtrack of the Year); Tems, who won Best Recording of the Year for her song “Burning”; and Qing Madi, who won Songwriter of the Year for “Vision”.

Further honours went to OZEBA (Producer of the Year); Director Pink (Music Video of the Year for “EGWU”); and Flavour (Afrobeats Single of the Year for “Big Baller”).

Temitola Adekunle Johnson and Michelle Mukoro (King Mitchy) were also recipients of the Humanitarian Award.
