Athletes and officials of the Ondo State contingent have departed Akure for Asaba to participate in the National Youth Games (NYG).

The 9th edition of the NYG will run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 6.

At the 8th edition, Team Ondo finished 12th on the medals table with a total of 16 medals.

The state will feature in 22 events including Wrestling, Karate, Squash, Darts, Athletics, Judo, Tennis, Table Tennis, and Swimming.

Others are Handball, Beach Volleyball (girls), Abula (male), Kickboxing, Boxing, Para Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon and Gymnastics.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Henry Omoyofunmi, while addressing the athletes, urged them to be good ambassadors of the state by competing in line with the rules and spirit of the games.

Omoyofunmi, represented by the General Manager of the state Sports Council, Sunday Fagite, encouraged the athletes to give their best and aim high.

*“Our sports-loving governor is looking forward to receiving you upon your return.

“Win medals for the state and make us proud,”* he said.
