The National Universities Commission (NUC) has conducted a resource verification visit to the Department of Finance and Banking, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Port Harcourt. The exercise was aimed at assessing the university’s readiness to launch a new undergraduate program in Insurance.
According to information gathered from the institution, the NUC team carried out a thorough evaluation of both human and material resources to determine the viability of the proposed program. The visit formed part of the process of verifying that the department had met all the requirements for the commencement of the course.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, acknowledged the NUC’s efforts and expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Yakubu Ochefu Ribadu, for assigning the team to handle what he described as an important assignment for the university.
Prof. Georgewill also commended the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Umoh, as well as the department involved, for preparing adequately ahead of the visit.
The outcome of the verification exercise is expected to determine whether the university will receive approval to begin admitting students into the new Insurance degree program.
