The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has condemned the vandalism of signalling equipment on the Lagos–Ibadan Standard Gauge corridor between Agege and Agbado stations.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Mr Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

According to him, unidentified persons tampered with vital signalling components along the corridor, including the removal of signal machine cap protectors and the cutting of connection cables on Switch Point Machine No. 2.

“The damage was discovered during a routine inspection on Monday, Oct. 6,” he said.

Unyimadu described the act as sabotage against national infrastructure, warning that such actions disrupt operations and pose serious safety risks to passengers and railway personnel.

He, however, assured the public that train services on the Lagos–Ibadan route remained unaffected and continued without interruption.

“Security agencies have been notified to investigate and apprehend those responsible,” he said, adding that the corporation remained committed to maintaining the safety and reliability of rail operations across the country.

Unyimadu urged residents, especially those in communities along railway corridors, to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities around railway facilities.
