Nollywood blockbuster drama Phoenix Fury has been selected to premiere at the 16th annual Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) in the United States.
Correspondents report that the organisers of the annual film fiesta announced the selection on their verified Instagram page, @svafilmfest.
According to SVAFF, Phoenix Fury is among 92 films from 35 countries slated to screen at the festival scheduled for Oct. 9 to 12 in San Jose, California.
The star-studded film, written, directed and produced by ace filmmaker Ifeoma Chukwuogo, features Uzoamaka Power, Onyinye Odokoro, Joseph Momodu, Ama K. Abebrese and veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo.
The plot follows Ewura-Ama, a widow who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana, only to have her life disrupted by the arrival of Yali, Nigeria’s newly elected governor.
The film’s selection for SVAFF comes a year after its award-winning debut at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it clinched Best Film and Best Director.
It has also earned a nomination at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for Best Lead Actress.
Other Nigerian films on the 2025 SVAFF selection list include Mother’s Love, Osamede, Soft Love, In Her Shoes, and The Incredible Sensational Fiancée of Sèyí Àjàyí, among others.
NAN reports that SVAFF, founded by Chike Nwoffiah, promotes understanding of Africa and its diaspora through films that showcase authentic African stories.
The festival features screenings, panel discussions, live performances, a fashion show, and an African Market.
