Nigerian Navy Deactivates Three Illegal Refining Sites in Delta State
The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos of the Nigerian Navy has successfully deactivated three illegal refining sites in Delta State, Commanding Officer Navy Capt. Ikenna Okoloagu announced on Thursday. The operation took place on Monday in the coastal community of Oteghele, located within the Obodo Omadino area of Warri South-West Local Government.
Capt. Okoloagu revealed that the illegal sites were discovered following credible intelligence reports. He stated that these sites contained approximately 2,700 litres of stolen crude oil and 2,200 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO). The seized products were found in two refining ovens, ten dug-out pits, two drums, and 26 polythene sacks.
“In our ongoing battle against crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other acts of economic sabotage, personnel from FOB Escravos have taken decisive action by deactivating these illegal refining sites,” Okoloagu declared. He emphasized that the operation aligns with efforts to boost Nigeria’s daily crude oil production.
The successful operation was conducted as part of the ongoing Operation DELTA SANITY II, which relies on credible intelligence to inform its actions. “This operation underscores our commitment to the strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, which focus on eliminating all forms of illegal activities within the maritime domain,” Okoloagu stated.
The Navy captain also issued a stern warning to those engaged in sabotaging the nation’s economic assets, cautioning that anyone caught would face appropriate legal consequences. The Nigerian Navy remains steadfast in its mission to protect the country’s resources and uphold maritime security.
