The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated relief materials to victims of banditry in six of the most affected local government areas in Katsina State.
Director-General Hajiya Zubaida Umar made this known during the inauguration of the distribution exercise on Wednesday in Katsina.
She stated that the Federal Government approved the distribution of relief materials to persons affected by banditry, kidnapping, and displacement in the state.
“As we all know, Katsina has faced serious challenges over the years, especially banditry and kidnapping, as witnessed recently in six LGAs of Musawa, Kurfi, Safana, Bakori, Sabuwa and Kankia. In spite of these trials, the resilience and resolve of its people remain a beacon of hope,” she said.
Umar explained that the recent devastating incidents in the affected areas had displaced thousands of families, disrupted livelihoods, and worsened the vulnerabilities of already fragile communities.
According to her, the gesture reflects the unwavering commitment of President Bola Tinubu, in line with the renewed hope agenda, and aims to complement ongoing efforts to rebuild and rehabilitate communities affected by insecurity.
She listed the relief materials to include 550 bags of rice (25kg), 550 bags of maize (25kg), 250 cartons of pasta, 50 cartons of tomato paste, 50 cartons of vegetable oil, and 20 bags of iodised salt.
The NEMA boss also praised the Katsina State Government for its continued efforts in disaster management and support to victims.
“NEMA remains committed to working closely with your government to strengthen disaster management and resilience-building in the state. As we hand over these relief items today, let us remember that our collective efforts are not just about responding to disasters, but also building a safer, more resilient future for all Nigerians,” she added.
Governor Dikko Radda commended the donation, describing it as a demonstration of the excellent relationship between NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Represented by Aminu Faskari, Secretary to the State Government, Radda also applauded the agency for the timely release of the materials.
He disclosed that the state government had distributed both food and non-food relief items, including building materials, to victims of various disasters.
“From 2023 to 2025, the state government has purchased grains worth over ₦507 million, and building materials valued at ₦358 million, which were distributed to disaster victims. Similarly, ₦451 million in cash assistance was given to 1,064 flood victims in 2024, with some receiving ₦300,000 each and others ₦600,000 each,” he said.
He added that another 3,196 flood victims had received building materials worth over ₦180 million, while SEMA had recently procured food and non-food items valued at over ₦207 million to manage future emergencies. Additional funds, he said, would soon be released for the procurement of more building materials for flood victims.
