The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has cautioned students to beware of a fraudulent online portal spreading false information about the student loan scheme.

This warning was issued in a statement in Abuja by the fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.

According to her, the misleading message falsely claims that President Bola Tinubu has ordered the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal and provides a fake web link: https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/.

“We wish to categorically state that this website is FAKE, and the information contained in the message is false and misleading. The only official portal for the NELFUND Student Loan Application is: https://nelf.gov.ng,” she stated.

She urged the public, particularly students, parents, and guardians, to avoid unverified links and to refrain from entering personal or financial details on suspicious websites.

Oluwatuyi reiterated NELFUND’s commitment to transparency, safety, and fairness in the loan application process, adding that all official announcements would be made only through verified platforms.

She further appealed to students to report any suspicious messages or websites via email at info@nelf.gov.ng.

She also encouraged the public to use the Fund’s official social media handles for information: ‘X’ (formerly Twitter): @nelfund, Instagram: @nelfund, and Facebook and LinkedIn: Nigerian Education Loan Fund – NELFUND.
