The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) FCT Command has conducted hernia surgeries for 11 inmates at the Kuje Custodial Centre, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance inmate welfare and uphold human dignity.

According to a statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, Samson Duza, the medical procedures took place on Sunday, June 8, and Monday, June 9, and were performed by a team of skilled medical personnel from the Service.

Duza stated that the surgeries adhered to global best practices and clinical standards, underscoring the Service’s commitment to the health and well-being of persons in custody.

He emphasised that the health and overall well-being of inmates remain a top operational priority, noting that the intervention not only alleviated pain and discomfort but also significantly improved the inmates’ quality of life while in custody.

The Controller of Corrections for the FCT Command, Olatunbosun Ajibogun, commended the medical team for their professionalism and dedication, according to Duza.

He added that the successful operation aligned with the vision of the Controller-General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Nwakuche, to reform, rehabilitate and reintegrate inmates into society as productive citizens.

The NCoS reaffirmed its commitment to humane custody, quality healthcare, and the protection of inmate rights across its facilities.
