The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, has urged members of the assembly’s standing committees to avoid compromise during oversight functions at Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Jatau made the remarks while declaring open a two-week oversight exercise at the plenary session on Monday in Lafia.
He said the exercise, commencing on Aug. 26, aims to ensure that the 2025 budget is strictly implemented by MDAs.
“Oversight functions are not to witch-hunt anybody, but to ensure that the right things are done in MDAs,” he said, adding that the assembly has appropriated funds and is constitutionally empowered to verify that the funds are used judiciously.
“We have passed the 2025 budget, and it is our duty to ensure that the budget is implemented strictly for the benefit of our people,” Jatau said.
He called on MDA management to give full support and cooperation to the committees to enable the exercise to succeed and appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his efforts in developing the state.
