The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched its 61st anniversary celebrations with a focus on deepening civil-military relations and highlighting its expanding role in national security and community development.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Bauchi, Air Vice Marshal Usman Abdullahi, Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command, reaffirmed NAF’s commitment to public transparency and national cohesion.

“This Open Day is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, national unity, and pride in service. We invite all Nigerians to come, see, and connect with their Air Force,” Abdullahi said.

He commended the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, for his strategic leadership in advancing NAF’s engagement with the public.

Abdullahi assured Nigerians of the Air Force’s ongoing efforts to tackle the country’s security challenges effectively.

The celebration, themed “Come See Your Air Force,” includes guided tours, aircraft exhibitions, personnel interaction sessions, and outreach initiatives in schools, such as career talks and mentorship programmes.

Activities are scheduled from May 1 to 15 across several bases, including those in Makurdi, Bauchi, Lagos, Kaduna, Maiduguri, and Kano.

Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed, the Chief Security Adviser, Abdulrahman Ahmed, praised the NAF’s operational achievements, especially in countering insurgency and banditry.

He called for increased aerial surveillance along Bauchi’s borders with Plateau, Gombe, and Taraba States, and advocated for stronger collaboration with other security forces.

In Bauchi, highlights of the celebration included educational visits by school children, career guidance sessions, and interactive engagements with NAF personnel.
