Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, has reiterated her rejection of any form of foreign intervention in the internal affairs of sovereign nations, citing recent tensions between the United States and Venezuela.
Sheinbaum restated her stance at a daily press conference, as tensions rose in the Caribbean Sea after the United States deployed warships near the Venezuelan coast.
“We will never be in favour of foreign government intervention in a sovereign country,” she said.
Washington described the deployment as part of its strategy to combat international drug cartels.
Sheinbaum emphasised that Mexico would continue to pursue a foreign policy rooted in respect for sovereignty, self-determination of peoples, and peaceful conflict resolution, consistent with the constitutional principles of Mexican diplomacy.
“Mexico’s foreign policy clearly states ‘no’ to interventionism and ‘yes’ to the defence of the self-determination of peoples. That will always be our position,” she added.
