A 40-year-old man, Desmond Ojajuni, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his wife and causing her bodily harm.

Ojajuni, a resident of Alapere-Ketu, Lagos, faced a charge of assault to which he pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, the defendant committed the offence on 15 May at Adiatu Lawanson Street, Alapere.

Ikhayere alleged that the defendant beat his wife, Purity, during a domestic dispute, inflicting injuries on her face and body.

She stated that the offence contravenes Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Presiding Magistrate Lateef Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until 23 July for hearing.
