The Police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 48-year-old man, Taiwo Anago, at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged unlawful conversion.

The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is facing charges of stealing and unlawful conversion. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 20, 2024, at about 12:10 a.m., in the Ilado area of Badagry.

Ekpo alleged that Anago converted ₦700,000, being the proceeds from the sale of half a plot of land at Okuju Ilado, belonging to the complainant, Mrs. Happiness Azeez.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by creating pandemonium. He was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution,” the prosecutor said.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 280 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that one of the sureties must be self-employed.

Layeni adjourned the case until Sept. 24 for mention.
