A 42-year-old man, Chika Egbulefu, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a truck worth N45m and a container worth 11m.
Egbulefu is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 29 at about 1 p.m. at Burma Road, Apapa, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired with others now at large to steal one Mack truck, with registration number: APP 440 XL, valued at N45 million, property of one Emmanuel Upelle of African Mineral and Logistics Limited,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the defendant also stole a container, with registration number: ARKU 246346922 G1, valued at N11 million, belonging to the same complainant, of Arkas Shipping Company.
He said that the defendant was arrested by the police while trying to sell the stolen truck.
According to her, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 287(7)(10) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N650,000, with two sureties each in like sum.
Owolabi said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He, thereafter, adjourned the matter till Feb. 3 for hearing.
