A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has remanded a 40-year-old man, Mojeed Adigun, for stealing 50 litres of palm oil valued at N128,000.

The Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, ordered Adigun’s remand after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of theft. Layeni adjourned the matter until Oct. 23 for presentation of facts and sentencing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, informed the court that the offence was committed on Sept. 25 at about 8:30 a.m. at Agbalata Market, Badagry.

He said the defendant stole the palm oil belonging to Mr Zosu Yemi, the complainant, and was apprehended by passers-by who handed him over to the police.

Ekpo said the act contravened Sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 prescribes a maximum of three years imprisonment for theft.
