A 31-year-old man, Sodiq Onakoya, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of a firearm, along with live and expended cartridges.
Onakoya, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge bordering on alleged unlawful possession of firearms, conspiracy, and breach of peace.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate L.A. Owolabi granted him bail in the sum of ₦350,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter until August 22.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on May 27 at about 5:00 p.m. during the Isemo Festival in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
Ikhayere said the defendant and others still at large were found in possession of a Beretta pistol with five rounds of live ammunition.
He allegedly used the weapon for unlawful activities, causing a breach of peace and terrorising the Ikorodu community during the festival.
“He couldn’t give any satisfactory account on how he came about it,” she told the court.
The offences, according to her, contravene Sections 168(d), 330(d), and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
