Lee Jae-myung, presidential candidate of South Korea’s liberal Democratic Party, is leading the race for the 3 June snap presidential election, according to a poll released on Friday by Flower Research.

The survey showed Lee with 50.5 per cent support, significantly ahead of Kim Moon-soo of the conservative People Power Party, who polled 30.3 per cent.

Lee, a human rights lawyer-turned-politician, remains the frontrunner in the election, which was prompted by the ousting of former President Yoon Suk-yeol following his failed attempt to impose martial law in December.

Lee previously lost the 2022 presidential election to Yoon by a margin of just 0.73 percentage points.

Lee Jun-seok of the minor conservative New Reform Party received 9.1 per cent support in the upcoming vote.

In terms of party approval ratings, the Democratic Party secured 50.0 per cent support, while the People Power Party stood at 31.8 per cent.

The poll was conducted from Monday to Thursday, sampling 4,012 voters, and has a margin of error of ±2.2 percentage points at a 95 per cent confidence level.
