Kwara Government has raised fresh concerns over the indiscriminate disposal of waste in waterways, road medians, and drains, urging residents to adopt proper waste management practices.

Commissioner for Environment, Hajiya Nafisat Musa-Buge, made the call during the commissioning of 70 roll-on bins and five skip eater trucks in Ilorin on Friday.

She said the government, in collaboration with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) project, procured the waste management equipment to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment across the state.

Musa-Buge emphasised the need for public cooperation in achieving sustainable sanitation and environmental hygiene.

“The populace should make judicious use of the equipment and embrace responsible dumping practices to maintain a clean and healthy environment,” she said.

She urged residents to stop dumping refuse in undesignated areas and instead use the newly provided waste bins.

According to her, the initiative is part of ACRESAL’s institutional strengthening component, which also supports other sectors such as agriculture and water resources.

The commissioner recalled that the governor had recently distributed farming inputs and tractors to all local governments, as well as embarked on the renovation of waterworks across the state, all under the ACRESAL framework.
