The Kogi Government has reconstituted a 26-member Drug Control Committee to intensify the fight against the menace of illicit drugs in the state.
The committee was inaugurated on Friday in Lokoja by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Folashade Ayoade, on behalf of Gov. Ahmed Ododo.
Ayoade said the initiative was in line with the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP) 2015–2019 and aimed at reducing the sale, distribution, and consumption of illicit substances in Kogi.
“The committee is expected to work as a team and hold regular discussions to achieve its goals, which will lead to a saner and safer society. Its diverse membership will bring different perspectives and expertise, ensuring effective implementation of its objectives,” she said.
The committee is made up of representatives from the NDLEA, government ministries, traditional institutions, youth associations, pharmaceutical bodies, NGOs, CSOs, and faith-based organisations.
The NDLEA Commander in Kogi, Umar Yahuza, will co-chair the committee alongside the governor’s wife, Hajia Sefinat Ododo.
Yahuza, speaking on behalf of the members, pledged their commitment to deliver on the objectives of the NDCMP and lauded the state government for reviving the committee.
