The Kaduna State Government has introduced an electric vehicle (EV) initiative to provide civil servants with affordable and environmentally friendly transportation options.
Governor Uba Sani, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, unveiled the scheme at Murtala Square, Kaduna, on Friday. The program offers subsidized loans for electric tricycles and motorcycles, with repayments automatically deducted from workers’ salaries in installments.
Governor Sani highlighted the state government’s dedication to addressing transportation challenges faced by civil servants, while promoting eco-friendly mobility solutions. He also noted that the scheme is a collaborative effort between the state government, the Nigerian Labour Congress, Paynacle Digital Services Limited, and Optimus Bank.
The initiative aims to ease workers’ transportation woes while fostering the use of clean energy. Paynacle Digital Services’ Managing Director, Bashir Ibrahim, assured the public that the company plans to set up EV charging stations and maintenance hubs across Kaduna’s three senatorial districts to ensure the project’s sustainability.
Ibrahim further revealed that the program would provide 10,000 electric motorcycles to workers and create over 2,000 new jobs in assembly, maintenance, and technical support. Additionally, civil servants will receive a 50% discount on charging costs.
The official praised Governor Sani’s administration for making Kaduna the first state to implement a large-scale electric mobility project for its workers, aligning with the state’s efforts to improve transportation, create jobs, and reduce carbon emissions.
