The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has strongly condemned the recent killings of 60 people in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The condemnation was made in a statement issued by the JNI Secretary-General, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, on Monday in Kaduna. Aliyu expressed deep concern over the violence, stating that it was disheartening to witness such attacks after a period of relative peace and stability in the region.
“It is very depressing to have read, after experiencing relative stability and peace on the Plateau, about the unwarranted killings of 60 people in Bokkos Local Government Area,” Aliyu said. “The JNI, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has closely monitored the security challenges in Plateau and condemns the attempt to return to the days of bloodshed.”
Aliyu emphasized that human life is sacred and should be treated with dignity, adding that the killings in Bokkos are deeply concerning and could escalate into broader instability if not properly managed.
He urged the government to take swift and decisive action, stating, “JNI reiterates that criminals must not be emboldened, and criminal activities must be adequately punished.”
Furthermore, Aliyu reported that on the same day, 16 people were killed in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, and about 50 individuals, including women and children, were kidnapped in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He questioned the continued occurrences of such violence, asking, “For how long will these repeated incidents continue to happen uninterrupted? Isn’t it time for Nigerians and security agents to be more proactive rather than reactive?”
Aliyu called on the security agencies to intensify their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face justice in accordance with the law. He also urged the Federal Government, along with the state governments of Plateau, Kebbi, and Katsina, to prioritize intelligence gathering and improve its timely use.
The JNI further called for increased security measures and support for security personnel in carrying out their duties effectively.
Aliyu concluded by urging all Nigerians to promote peace, equity, and justice, stressing that no one has the right to take life above another citizen in Nigeria. The Sultan of Sokoto also expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the affected state governments, praying for divine intervention in Nigeria’s security challenges.
