Jemima Osunde Criticizes Industry Pressure on Actors to be Social Media Content Creators

Nigerian actress Jemima Osunde has expressed her strong disapproval of the growing trend within the film industry that pressures actors to become active social media content creators as a prerequisite for securing roles. In a candid video posted on her social media platforms, Osunde articulated her frustrations regarding this shift, emphasizing that acting should prioritize talent and performance over online presence.

“The industry is now making it mandatory for actors to create social media content. It’s as if they’re saying, ‘You must dance on the internet,’” Osunde lamented. She further criticized the notion that actors without a significant online following are at a disadvantage when it comes to casting decisions, stating, “If you are not an actor with a social media presence, you are not going to be cast because you need to sell the film. That should not be my job!”

The actress drew a parallel to Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, who has built a successful career grounded in his craft, despite maintaining a minimal social media presence. “How many times do you see Keanu Reeves when he is not on your screen as an actor?” she questioned, highlighting the disparity between established actors and the pressure faced by newcomers.

Osunde, known for her role as Leila in the popular television series “Shuga,” has garnered recognition in the industry, including a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her performance in “The Delivery Boy” (2018).

In addition to her critique of industry norms, Osunde recently addressed rumors regarding alleged cosmetic surgery after being accused of undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). She affirmed her commitment to natural beauty, encouraging discussions around body positivity and authenticity.
