The Executive Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue, Mr Victor Ormin, has ordered a restriction on movement in and out of the LGA beyond 6:30 p.m. due to rising insecurity.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Timothy Ajieje, and made available to journalists in Makurdi on Monday.

According to the chairman, residents are advised to avoid night travel within Gwer West until the security situation improves.

“With this executive directive, people coming into Gwer West and those going out to other places are to do so within the stipulated time of 6:30 pm,” he said.

“This restriction will be reviewed as the security situation improves.”

Correspondents report that Gwer West shares boundaries with Makurdi, Gwer East, and Otukpo LGAs.

It was also gathered that a federal highway passing through the LGA is used by commuters to access eastern and southern regions of the country.
