Landlords and residents of four communities in Okoerin Ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara, have opposed the establishment of hotels and alcohol joints in the area.
The communities include Ifesowapo, Alalubarika, Osere and Okoerin.
Alhaji Abdulwahab Opeloyeru, Chairman of Ifesowapo community and spokesperson for the four communities, said the decision followed a security meeting convened by landlords and residents after construction of a hotel began in the densely populated area.
“Establishing a hotel in this area will escalate social vices and disturb the existing peace and harmony in the communities,” he said.
Opeloyeru explained that hotels and alcoholic joints pose security risks and could negatively influence the morals of young people in the communities.
“Landlords and residents of the four communities are unanimously opposed to the ongoing construction and have invited the owner to express our displeasure,” he added.
He noted that the communities had alerted the state Police Command and the State Town Planning Authority to ensure continued peace in the area.
