Ikeja Court Remands 20-Year-Old for Allegedly Defiling Seven-Year-Old Stepdaughter
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has remanded a 20-year-old man, Linus Sunday, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his seven-year-old stepdaughter. The court proceedings took place on Wednesday, with Justice Abiola Soladoye overseeing the case.
Linus Sunday was brought before the court on a charge of defilement filed by the Lagos State Government. He pleaded not guilty to the allegations. Justice Soladoye ordered the remand of the accused at the custodial facility while awaiting a hearing on his bail application and the determination of the case.
The court has adjourned the matter until May 5 for the commencement of the trial. During the proceedings, state Counsel Mrs. Ibukun Ibikunle informed the court of the prosecution’s intention to call four witnesses to testify against the defendant.
The alleged incident occurred in December 2022 at Oladeinde Street, Aguda, in the Surulere area of Lagos State. The prosecution asserts that Sunday unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with the minor, a charge that violates Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government and law enforcement to combat sexual offenses and protect vulnerable individuals. As the legal process unfolds, the court remains committed to ensuring justice for the victim and upholding the rule of law.
