The President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), Olusegun Runsewe, has appealed for calm following the sealing of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Starreporters recalls that the IBB Golf Club is a premier recreational and tourist destination, attracting golf enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The DSS sealed the club on Saturday due to an internal leadership dispute, allegedly to prevent an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for the same day.
In a statement issued on Monday, Runsewe assured the public that the matter was a family issue that would be resolved soon.
“The NGF is aware of the concerns this closure has caused among our members and the golfing community,” he said.
“I want to assure everyone that the issue will be resolved soon. The IBB Golf Club is a family, and there is no challenge that cannot be addressed.”
Runsewe noted that the NGF had successfully handled similar disputes in Kano, Ekiti, and Yola, and expressed confidence that the IBB Club crisis would be no exception.
He also urged stakeholders to refrain from making statements that could escalate tensions, adding that the presence of DSS operatives was a sign that the situation was being managed effectively.
