Prince Harry on Monday laid a wreath and flowers at the tomb of his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, to mark the third anniversary of her death.
The Duke of Sussex, who arrived in the UK earlier in the day, visited the King George VI Memorial Chapel within St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where the late queen was laid to rest. A spokesperson for the Sussexes said the duke privately paid his respects.
Later in the evening, Harry is scheduled to attend the WellChild awards in London, an event he has supported for more than 15 years as patron of the charity. The awards celebrate the achievements of seriously ill children and their families, and this year coincides with the anniversary of the late monarch’s passing.
Harry is expected to deliver a speech, meet families and present an award to an “inspirational child” aged between four and six. The visit comes amid speculation about a possible meeting with King Charles, who is receiving cancer treatment.
Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral in Scotland on Sept. 8, 2022, at the age of 96 after a 70-year reign.
