The Enforcers of Good Governance (EGG), a socio-political advocacy group based in Rivers State, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to lift the state of emergency imposed on the state.
The appeal was made in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the group’s National Convener, Dr Kingsley Ogu.
Ogu described the request as both symbolic and practical, proposing it as a meaningful gesture to mark the upcoming June 12 Democracy Day.
He stated that the resolution was part of decisions reached during the group’s expanded stakeholders meeting held the same day in Rivers State.
“The Enforcers of Good Governance, under the leadership of our National Convener, Dr Kingsley Ogu, convened an expanded stakeholders meeting on Monday, June 9, 2025, in Rivers State,” he said.
“This meeting followed our National Leader’s official declaration in Abuja confirming our total alignment with the renewed political momentum and strategic roadmap ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
Ogu reaffirmed the group’s strong support for President Tinubu, praising his leadership, policy direction, and dedication to democratic values under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We express deep appreciation to Mr President for his timely and statesmanlike intervention in the Rivers State political crisis. His decisive actions have helped restore calm and paved the way for lasting peace,” he added.
He said, in view of the strides made towards reconciliation, lifting the state of emergency would be both appropriate and timely.
“We believe that doing so would be a symbolic and practical gift to Nigerians in commemoration of June 12 — our Democracy Day,” he said.
According to Ogu, the meeting included the 23 Local Government Area coordinators, 23 women leaders, 23 social media influencers, and leaders of the group’s structures across seven higher institutions in Rivers State.
He noted that every member present reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, pledging widespread grassroots mobilisation.
Ogu added that, in line with the group’s endorsement of the Renewed Hope Agenda, EGG would soon launch a nationwide door-to-door sensitisation campaign aimed at galvanising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.
He explained that the campaign would highlight the administration’s achievements and promote greater civic engagement across communities.
He further called on citizens, civil society organisations, and political actors to join the group in its mission to strengthen democracy and foster national unity.
