The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has reached a golden milestone, celebrating its 50th Anniversary alongside its 35th Combined Convocation Ceremony a testament to decades of unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research, and service to humanity.
The blue themed decoration set the tone for an atmosphere of pride and progress, as alumni, students, staff, and dignitaries gathered to honor the legacy of an institution that has stood tall since 1975. UNIPORT, affectionately known as “Unique Uniport,” has grown remarkably over the years not just in infrastructure, but in global reputation and scholarly output.
At the heart of this celebration is the Golden Jubilee Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, whose leadership has rekindled the founding vision of enlightenment and self reliance. His tireless efforts have been hailed for steering the university into an era of global competitiveness while preserving its foundational values.
In his welcome speech at the Research and Exhibition segment of the event, Professor Georgewill stated:
“This exhibition will take you through the impact of cutting-edge research across the various Faculties, Centres, Institutes, Units and the College of Health Sciences of the University of Port Harcourt from its humble beginning in 1975 to present. At 50, the University has come of age. I urge you to go through the exhibition and find out everything you need to know about research, development, innovation and technology in the University of Port Harcourt.”
