The Governing Council of the Federal University, Gashua, Yobe, has approved the promotion of 10 senior lecturers to the rank of professor and 12 others to the rank of reader.
This was contained in a statement by the university’s Head of Information and Protocol Unit, Alhaji Adamu Saleh, in Gashua on Friday.
He said the promotions were ratified at the council’s regular meeting held on 4 September.
“The decision underscores the university’s commitment to rewarding merit, excellence and dedication in teaching, research and community service,” Saleh said.
According to him, the council also approved the conversion of three non-teaching staff to the academic cadre.
On the non-teaching cadre, six senior members of staff were promoted to deputy directors, while the employment contracts of four others were renewed for varying periods.
Saleh said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, congratulated all those promoted and appointed, describing the development as a milestone in the university’s growth and academic excellence.
“She urged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by deepening their commitment to scholarship, innovation and community service,” he added.
He said the council reaffirmed its determination to sustain a culture of merit, encourage hard work and strengthen the university’s global competitiveness.
