Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a fresh bid to restore peace amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
A source disclosed that the meeting took place on Monday at Wike’s residence in Abuja. The insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, dismissed circulating images of the duo as outdated but confirmed the recent visit.
“The photograph is an old image, but I can inform you that he (Fubara) came to see the Minister this week Monday,” the source said.
The meeting marks yet another attempt by Fubara to reconcile with Wike, his political predecessor, with whom he has been embroiled in a fierce power tussle since taking office in 2023. The dispute, largely over control of political structures in Rivers, has led to the division of the State House of Assembly and heightened tensions within the state.
In March 2025, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara and declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator. The action followed rising tensions and threats from militant groups in the Niger Delta to attack oil facilities.
Since his suspension, Fubara has met with Tinubu in London and Lagos, and continued to reach out to Wike, who previously referred to him as “my son” and urged him to engage other political stakeholders in Rivers.
Despite Wike’s call for wider consultations, there have been no confirmed reports of Fubara meeting other political actors in the state. His recent visit to Wike comes as the suspension nears its third month, raising questions about the effectiveness and reach of his reconciliation efforts.
