The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has vowed to impound any articulated vehicle found transporting both passengers and animals within the state.

The state FRSC Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, disclosed this to journalists after a meeting with members of the Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday in Akure.

He emphasized that all irregularities involving articulated vehicles in the state would be addressed to enhance road safety.

According to him, the command is actively engaging with enforcement agents to tackle issues related to drivers of articulated vehicles.

“Enforcement is ongoing to put an end to ‘mixed loading,’ which involves carrying both humans and goods or animals.

“We are not treating this lightly; any vehicle caught engaging in such an act will be arrested and impounded.

“We are working closely with stakeholders to caution drivers and ensure they desist from this dangerous practice.

“When crashes occur, many assume only the driver and his motor boy are involved, but in reality, you may find over 10 passengers squeezed into the vehicle alongside cows,” he said.

Ibitoye further stated that his visit to the House of Assembly was to seek the support of Speaker Chief Olamide Oladiji and other lawmakers in ensuring safer roads in the state.

“We are here to foster collaboration and bring them on board because road safety is a shared responsibility.

“Everyone, regardless of status, must contribute to ensuring our roads are safer and more organized for the development of the country,” he added.

The sector commander advised road users to exercise patience and adhere to safety regulations to prevent accidents.

“My advice is for road users to remain patient. Speeding, reckless driving, and overloading should be avoided.

“Planning journeys ahead and following traffic rules will help save lives,” he said.
