Concerns are mounting in the aviation sector as Chris Najomo, the acting Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), highlighted a troubling trend of increasing flight cancellations. Speaking at the Airlines-NCAA engagement event on Friday, Najomo reported that nearly 190 flights were canceled over just two months.

During his address, Najomo provided a detailed account of flight operations in recent months, revealing that, in September 2024, a total of 5,291 flights were conducted, with 2,434 experiencing delays and 79 ultimately canceled. The situation showed further deterioration in October 2024, when 5,513 flights were operated, leading to 2,791 delays and 111 cancellations.

The acting DG’s remarks underline the growing frustrations among travelers and the urgent need for airlines and regulatory bodies to address the underlying issues contributing to this surge in disruptions. As the aviation sector continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, stakeholders are keenly awaiting a comprehensive response to improve the reliability and efficiency of air travel in Nigeria.
