Properties valued in millions of Naira were destroyed on Thursday when fire gutted six shops at Ile-Ewe in the Sawmill Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The incident affected six out of ten locked-up shops in the area.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday.

According to Akinwande, the agency received a distress call about the fire from one Mr David Ajagbe at exactly 14:08 hours.

He said fire service personnel, led by CFS Dairo, responded swiftly and arrived at the scene promptly.

“On getting to the scene, we met six out of ten locked-up shops well alight and quickly engaged our appliance and we were able to curtail the fire from spreading to other shops and nearby properties,” he said.

Akinwande noted that while properties worth millions were lost, the fire service successfully saved assets of similar value.

He added that no casualties were recorded and investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
