The Federal Government has equipped the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) with a one-megawatt solar plant to provide a reliable alternative electricity supply and enhance service delivery.

At the handover ceremony in Abuja on Monday, Minister of Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu highlighted the importance of the initiative as part of the Federal Government’s Solar PV initiative, aimed at powering public buildings nationwide.

Represented by Mr. Mamman Mahmuda, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Power, Adelabu emphasized that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transitioning Nigeria to clean energy and providing sustainable power to public institutions.

“This project demonstrates our commitment to energy security, environmental sustainability, and cost-effective governance. By powering key government infrastructure with solar energy, we are proving the potential of renewable energy in achieving universal electricity access sustainably,” he said.

Adelabu also stressed that the HCSF office, central to public administration and policy development in Nigeria, requires an uninterrupted power supply to maintain efficient service delivery. The solar project is expected to reduce reliance on the national grid and decrease operational costs by minimizing diesel consumption.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, expressed her gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Power for the successful implementation of the project. She underscored the significance of the initiative in enhancing service delivery and promoting sustainable energy within the civil service.

“This marks a significant step towards a more sustainable public service infrastructure. Reliable power is essential for effective governance and national development,” she stated. Walson-Jack also highlighted how integrating renewable energy into civil service operations would foster innovation and improve efficiency.

Mr. Ichie Omeje, Managing Director of Truetech Global Investment Services Ltd., noted that the project, executed in collaboration with JRB Solar Investment Ltd., represents a major advancement in Nigeria’s pursuit of sustainable energy solutions. Omeje further revealed that world-class equipment was used in the project, and a three-year maintenance plan is in place to ensure the long-term sustainability of the solar power supply.
