Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi has called on Nigerians to allow elected officials to focus on fulfilling their campaign promises instead of distracting them with premature electioneering ahead of the 2027 polls.
Abdullahi, the immediate past Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Yobe, made the appeal on Monday while speaking with journalists in his hometown, Umaisha, Toto LGA.
He emphasized that public officeholders need sufficient time to deliver on their pledges and make necessary adjustments where needed.
*“Elected officials have spent only two out of their four years in office. The early display of campaign posters is a distraction.
“Those seeking re-election still have ample time to take the right steps and earn the support of the electorate before the 2027 general elections.
“The display of campaign posters by politicians at this stage is unnecessary. They still have two years to make an impact and fulfill their mandates,”* he said.
Abdullahi added that it was premature for him to declare his political ambitions for 2027.
“For those of us outside the system, we are observing and assessing our representatives. When the time comes, we will decide and inform the public.
“For now, elected officials still have time to perform, improve, and make amends, especially those seeking re-election but have yet to meet the expectations of their people,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting and praying for leaders at all levels to enable them to succeed.
The former Speaker also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his leadership in Nasarawa State, particularly his peace-building efforts in Toto LGA.
He called on residents to set aside their differences and work together to sustain peace and development in the region.
