Edo Government Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Local Governance

The Edo State Government has reiterated its dedication to enhancing local government governance across the state. This commitment was emphasized by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Lucky Eseigbe, during a press briefing in Benin on Thursday.

Eseigbe outlined the administration’s strategy to achieve its objectives by prioritizing security, infrastructure development, and economic empowerment in all 18 local government areas of the state. He underscored the vital role of local government as the third tier of governance in ensuring security and improving the overall well-being of citizens.

“The people at the grassroots voted for this administration, and we have no excuse not to provide them with security,” Eseigbe affirmed, highlighting the importance of creating a safe and secure environment that would attract both local and international investors.

He detailed several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Edo citizens. These initiatives include ensuring access to potable water, constructing accessible roads to facilitate transportation and economic growth, and improving waste management and environmental hygiene. Additionally, the government aims to provide reliable electricity supply to power homes and businesses.

Local government chairmen have been directed to implement these initiatives, with an emphasis on delivering visible progress at the grassroots level. Eseigbe also mentioned that the state government is championing agricultural development, urging local councils to take the lead in revitalizing farming initiatives to boost food security and stimulate economic growth.

“Environmental hygiene remains a top priority,” he stated, directing local government councils to enhance waste management efforts in markets and public spaces.

In conclusion, the commissioner assured local government councils of the state government’s ongoing supervision and support in executing projects designed to improve the well-being of Edo citizens. “With these measures, the administration aims to deliver lasting dividends of democracy to citizens across the state,” he said, expressing confidence in the government’s ability to meet its commitments.
