A Wuse Zone 2, Senior Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old driver, James Istifanus, to three months imprisonment for stealing his employer’s car.
Snr Magistrate Olumide Bamishile, sentenced Istifanus, after he pleaded guilty to the charge
The magistrate sentenced him without an option of fine.
While delivering the judgment, the magistrate held that the convict was a first time offender.
“The convict being a first time offender and having not wasted the time of the court, is hereby sentenced to three months imprisonment without an option of fine.
“The convict shall serve the term in Keffi Correctional Centre,” Bamishile held.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Donatus Abah, told the court that on Dec. 1, the convict took his employer, Rev. Fr. Nicolas Onyema, to Kubwa Papas Ground Catholic Church, for a priestly ordination.
He said that after the convict dropped the priest, he took the car, a Honda Pilot to Gwagwa Village.
The prosecution counsel told the court that the convict negotiated to sell the car for N4 million.
He stated that the convict was arrested at the point of attempting to sell the car.
The prosecution said the offence contravened Section 284 of the panel code.
The convict however pleaded for leniency.
