A 35-year-old truck driver, Sunday Bello, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging his employer’s truck.
Bello, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a two-count charge of wilful damage and unlawful interference with property.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences between June 13 and June 14 while in transit within Lagos.
According to her, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by using a truck marked KSF 749 XM, property of GPC Energy and Logistics Ltd., without authorisation.
Ikhayere said Bello unlawfully transported unauthorised charcoal without the company’s knowledge.
“He unlawfully disconnected the truck’s tracking device to secretly convey the unauthorised goods,” she said.
She added that the defendant maliciously damaged several parts of the truck, including the blind spot mirror, kick starter, battery terminal, and door lock – all valued at ₦316,000.
The alleged offences violate Sections 350 and 340 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Bello pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Lateef Owolabi granted him bail in the sum of ₦150,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter until August 15 for mention.
