Nollywood actor and academic Dr. Sam Dede has urged Africans to take ownership of their narrative in the face of globalization. Speaking at the 10th Kurukuru African Roots Renaissance Roundtable held at Wigwe University in Isiokpo, Dr. Dede, who also convened the event, stated that Africa has become a passive spectator in a global order that undermines its values and identity.
During the roundtable, Wigwe University’s Vice-Chancellor and chief host, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, called for the development of Afrocentric solutions to address the continent’s challenges.
Other speakers, including Dr. Tayo Isijola and Professor Kalu Nwosu, emphasized the necessity of redefining globalization to uphold African dignity. They encouraged young Africans to rise above the constraints of colonial legacies.
Participants at the event identified poor leadership as a critical barrier to the continent’s progress.
The roundtable focused on the themes of “Globalization, the New World Order, and the Hijacked Concept of Africanism,” aiming to reawaken African consciousness and inspire transformative action across the continent.
