The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) installed 225,631 meters in the second quarter of 2025.

The figure, according to NERC’s second-quarter report released on its website, represents a 20.55 per cent increase compared to the 187,161 meters installed in the first quarter of the year.

The report stated that 147,823 meters, representing 65.52 per cent of the total installations, were deployed under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) framework.

It added that 5,315 meters were installed under the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF), while 12,259 were installed through the Vendor-Financed framework.

“Two hundred and thirty-four meters were installed under the DisCo-Financed framework,” the report noted.

As of June 2025, only 6,422,933 out of the total 11,821,194 active registered customers in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) had been metered, translating to a metering rate of 54.33 per cent.

The report further disclosed that DisCos successfully resolved 1,129 out of 2,474 complaints filed at NERC’s Customer Complaints Unit (CCU), representing a resolution rate of 45.63 per cent.

It added that 227,267 complaints were received across all DisCo CCUs during the quarter — a 10.67 per cent decrease from the 254,404 received in the first quarter of 2025.

“As in previous quarters, metering, billing, and service interruption remained the most prevalent customer complaints,” the report stated.
