A diesel-laden tanker has fallen and caught fire on the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The FRSC Sector Commander in Enugu State, Franklin Agbakoba, said the incident occurred at about 6:16 p.m. on Thursday. He explained that personnel had already diverted traffic from the expressway and advised motorists and pedestrians to use the Ngwo Community Road, popularly known as “Ngwo Snake Road,” in and out of Enugu metropolis.
Agbakoba confirmed that the accident was a lone crash, with no casualties recorded as of the time of reporting. “There is no life lost in the incident for now,” he said.
He added that both the Federal and State Fire Services were at the scene battling the blaze and working to prevent its escalation.
“Rescue teams from the State Sector and the FRSC 9th Mile Unit Commands were activated to the crash scene, and more details will be forwarded soon,” the commander said.
