The Delta State Government has distributed relief items to victims affected by the 2024 flood disaster across various parts of the state.

The materials were handed over during a ceremony held in Asaba on Thursday, where the Co-chairman of the State Flood Management Committee, Mr Terry Etacherure, presented them to representatives from four impacted Local Government Areas.

Etacherure, who also serves as Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, said the beneficiaries were from Oshimili South, Aniocha South, Burutu, and Isoko South.

Items distributed included bags of rice and beans, cartons of tinned tomatoes, vegetable and palm oil, salt, and detergents, among others.

He noted that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had previously provided support to communities heavily affected by the 2024 floods.

“This distribution underscores Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of all Deltans,” he stated.

Etacherure urged local council representatives to ensure that the materials are fairly and promptly delivered to the most vulnerable.

“You should ensure that people who have not yet received assistance are also given a share,” he added.

In response, Mr Tony Ebube, Secretary to the Aniocha South Local Government Council, expressed gratitude to the state government for the support.

He said the assistance would go a long way in easing the hardship caused by the disaster.

“We assure you that the items will reach the intended beneficiaries.
This initiative highlights Governor Oborevwori’s strong dedication to the people’s welfare and progress,”
Ebube said.

Correspondents report that Mr Gregory Ejehwomu, Permanent Secretary of the Bureau for Special Duties, and Mr Karo Ovemeso, Director of SEMA, were also present at the event.
