CypherCrescent, a leading petroleum asset management, software development, and engineering consulting company, has donated a state-of-the-art building to the University of Port Harcourt’s Energy Technology Institute. The donation was made by the company’s Managing Director and CEO, Engr. ThankGod Egbe, an alumnus of the university.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), marked the beginning of the building project, which aims to support advanced research in energy technology. Speaking during the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, described the donation as a practical example of alumni giving back in a way that creates real impact.
“This is more than just a building—it’s a major contribution to the future of energy research in Nigeria,” Prof. Georgewill said.
The event attracted representatives from several major national agencies including the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), NNPC New Energies, Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), Triple Helix Nigeria, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). All the agencies pledged their support for the project.
In addition to the building, CypherCrescent also donated the SEPAL Solver, a specialized software tool developed by the company to help researchers solve complex mathematical problems in energy research. The software is expected to significantly enhance research output and innovation within the institute.
Prof. Georgewill commended the gesture and expressed gratitude on behalf of the university. He noted that the partnership between UNIPORT and CypherCrescent reflects the growing collaboration between academia and industry to tackle real-world challenges, especially in the energy sector.
