The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc. (NAHCO) Export Packaging and Processing Centre (NEPPC) has secured the backing of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in its effort to transform Nigeria’s commodity export sector.
Controller-General of the NCS, Adewale Adeniyi, gave the assurance during a visit to the Lagos-based export processing centre.
“I commend what you are doing here, and whatever you are doing to improve the economy of the country, especially exports, I am all for it,” he stated.
Adeniyi directed the Customs Area Controller at the Cargo Terminal Command, M.T. Awe, to ensure that the NEPPC complies with all necessary procedures to achieve its objectives.
He noted that the role of Customs extends beyond revenue generation, adding that it also includes supporting enterprises that create employment and attract foreign exchange.
Group Managing Director of NAHCO, Olumuyiwa Olumekun, described the visit as a welcome encouragement, noting that the centre is designed to boost Nigeria’s agro-exports via airports.
He explained that the operation of the NEPPC would follow international standards, with perishable goods now processed separately from general cargo at NAHCO’s export shed.
Olumekun said the centre was established to guarantee proper packaging of commodities to meet the requirements of global markets.
The facility, inaugurated in 2024, aims to enhance the global competitiveness of Nigerian commodities.
