An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of a 45-year-old man, Ukeme Etim, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his wife’s eight-year-old niece.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Kushanu, declined to take the defendant’s plea and directed that he be remanded until 4 September pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defendant, a trader residing at 37 Okpya Street, Aboru, Lagos, is facing charges of sexual assault and defilement.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, the alleged offences occurred on 31 May at the defendant’s residence.
Ademigbuji told the court that the defendant molested the girl while his wife was away at the market. The child later reported the incident to her aunt.
The charges are said to contravene Sections 137 and 264 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
