An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, has dissolved the 11-year marriage between Aminat Mustapha and Bolaji Gold over alleged domestic violence and loss of affection.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, the Presiding Judge, Mr Toyin Aluko, said that since the respondent had consented to the dissolution, there was no need for further delay.
Aluko consequently dissolved the Islamic marriage and directed the petitioner to observe a one-month iddah (waiting) period before she could remarry.
The court adjourned the case until Nov. 4 to decide on the custody of the children.
Earlier, Mustapha told the court that she was no longer interested in the marriage and sought both divorce and custody of the children.
She also requested ₦50,000 as monthly maintenance for the children and asked that their father continue to pay their school fees.
While Gold agreed to end the marriage, he objected to his estranged wife’s request for custody of their four children, aged 10, 9, 6, and 2.
