Commodity associations and stakeholders in the agricultural sector have pledged their support for Dr. Farouk Mudi, reaffirmed President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), as they push for unity and restructuring within the body.

Speaking at the National Expanded Executive Council Meeting in Abuja, AFAN Vice President and Maize Farmers Association President, Dr. Bello Abubakar, said the time was right to reorganise AFAN following the recent court judgment that validated Dr. Mudi’s leadership.

“We’re starting by bringing all farmers under one umbrella through commodity associations and CBOs. We will support Alhaji Farouk to make this happen,” he said.

AFAN National Secretary, Alhaji Yunusa Halidu, also urged smaller commodity groups to integrate into a unified platform to streamline advocacy and operations.

National Cotton Association President, Mr. Anibe Achimugu, described the meeting as a fresh start, stressing that collective strength was key to agricultural progress.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tola Ogunnubi of the Wheat Farmers Association said agriculture must now be seen as agribusiness, calling for improved funding and farmer security.
